Ats are creatures of habit and usually react very irritably to changes of location. There are also kitties enthusiastic about the change in their environment, but they often used them to travel as kittens. Transport boxes and cars are therefore nothing strange to them. However, it is characteristic of the shy animals that they do not perceive the holiday as the most beautiful time of the year but rather respond to unfamiliar stimuli and strange rooms with stress and then unpleasantly express their protest. If an animal boarding house or a cat sitter is out of the question for you during the holidays, here are some tips for a holiday with a cat.

Go on vacation with a cat.

Traveling by car is definitely the most relaxed way to travel with a kitty. It is a comparatively quiet way of moving, and your house tiger is not confronted with strangers. You can also plan and divide the route yourself. If your velvet paw needs a little attention or is restless, nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous rest in the next parking lot. With Deutsche Bahn and on long-distance buses, you usually take your pet with you in a transport box or cat basket free of charge. We must place the box on the shelf or your lap like a piece of luggage.

When traveling by train, you should make sure that the journey time is not too long, as your darling has little freedom of movement. Pets up to a weight of eight kilograms are allowed into the cabin on the aircraft. Larger four-legged friends, on the other hand, are only transported in the luggage compartment. This is a traumatic experience for many mammals. Check with your airline in good time to find out how the animal transport is handled there. Very different conditions apply to ships. It is advisable to obtain information about bringing cats with you at an early stage.

The luggage for the vacation with a cat

Regardless of which variant you choose, you must choose a comfortable and easily portable transport basket for your pet. Many four-legged friends associate transport boxes with a visit to the vet. Hence this creates fears. Practice being out and about in the travel box with your kitty in good time, so you will both survive the journey together relaxed. There are also harnesses and leashes for cats of different sizes. The walk with the house tiger on a leash is laughed at by many. However, if you often travel with your cat, it is advisable to get them used to the tableware early.

In this way, she can have exercise on a long journey without you having to worry that the cat will no longer find your way back. Take some water with you on the go. You should not give food until you arrive. The kitty needs familiar items such as her cat basket or bed, a litter box, her favorite toys, and the food that she gets at home at the holiday destination. To remove unfamiliar smells in the hotel or holiday apartment, it is best to use a pheromone spray with a plug. This makes it easier for the house cat to move into the temporary home.

Finding suitable accommodation is the biggest hurdle for pet owners when they vacation with a four-legged friend. Although many hotels are now set up to meet the needs of dog owners, other animal species are often not taken into account. If you find a holiday home or apartment in your desired location where cats are also welcome, then make sure that the room is big enough that your kitty can live out her urge to move.

Usually, you have to dig deep into your pocket for a suitable hotel room. Holiday home with a balcony or a garden where your darling can move around on a leash is the perfect place to stay. You can also take a small scratching post with you if it is not available in the holiday home. This is useful insofar as it prevents furniture and curtains from being misused by the house tiger to sharpen its claws. At the same time, to protect the furnishings in your house, remember to bring toys for your cat with you. If your house tiger is bored, it will try to live out its urge to move on the furnishings.

Refrain from running freely on vacation

Cats have a perfect sense of direction. Therefore, they can easily find their way back to you in their familiar surroundings even after long trips. After moving, the animals get used to the new coordinates of their domicile by having to stay in the house for at least two weeks before they can explore the garden. For this reason, it goes without saying that the four-legged friends are not allowed to go outside without a leash on vacation, which usually only lasts two to three weeks. Even if you are convinced that your kitty will stay close to you, you should adhere to this rule because when the urge for freedom comes into play, your darling forgets you very quickly.

The legal situation when vacationing with a cat

Many countries do not allow kittens under three months old to be taken. Otherwise, many states have their own regulations as to when a pet can cross the border. If you go on vacation with your darling, then you generally need a passport for your house cat in the European Union. The indispensable travel document is the blue EU pet passport. Your vet will issue this to you. The number of your velvet paw tattooed in the ear or its microchip number is entered in the passport as unmistakable features. Your cat must also be vaccinated against rabies. Well, you will enter this treatment into the passport before you can travel.

Some European countries also have other regulations for the introduction of animals. In Ireland, for example, they must demonstrate that immunization against rabies was already 21 days ago. In addition, the doctor is obliged to enter the name of the vaccine, the date of the last treatment, and the duration of protection. There are similar regulations for Sweden, Malta, and the United Kingdom, among others. Turkey and Russia require a health certificate. In addition, some countries prescribe tapeworm treatment, which usually has to takes place 30 days before the start of the journey. Therefore, find out in good time which regulations exist for entering your holiday region.
